In 2007, the UNESCO organized an International Expert Meeting on World Heritage and the Arctic. Representatives from the eight States Parties of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention in the Arctic region, organizations of indigenous peoples, the Advisory Bodies (IUCN, ICOMOS), the Nordic World Heritage Foundation and the World Heritage Centre participated in this meeting to exchange information on the natural and cultural heritage of the Arctic region, with identification of potential sites of Outstanding Universal Value for the World Heritage List.
